OSP HS-09 Earset Slimline Invisible Headworn Microphone - compare to Countryman E6i

***Where can I find reasonably priced wireless headworn low-profile microphones for theater?***?

Hello!

I am on the board of directors of the Dade County Community Theater in Greenfield Missouri. I am also a member of the Greenfield High School Drama club. Theater is a very big part of my life.

One thing we encounter at both theaters I work in is sound. We despirately need wireless microphones. The type I have seen in other theaters look something like this: http://img3.giardinelli.com/dbase/pics/products/3/7/0/224370.jpg

The only problem is funding. These wireless headworn low-profile microphones cost in excess of 300-400 dollars each, and that is way over budget for us. We would be looking to purchase around 8 of them, and whatever system would be required to hook it into our P.A. system.

PLEASE, please help. We need to find somewhere to purchase these fairly cheaply. I'm thinking the school would approve funding for $1000-$1500 for this project.

Does ANYONE know of a good, cheap place to buy these?

THANKS in advance!
-Jordan

If you already have quality wireless belt paks and receivers - and you wish to just get replacement mics, with cables, to go to these paks, then options could be from at least Countryman and Telex/EV.
The 'buy once/cry once' is very much in order here. Those types of mics are among many things I deal with year round.
These types of instruments are expensive, they provide superior vocal pickup compared to lav mics ( which are horrid ) and I am not aware of inexpensive units worth investing your funds.
In a quantity of 8 mics ( to connect to existing wireless systems ) - you may be able to acquire these for about 2400 to 2800 dollars. They are ordered to fit the pak mic connector.
They are delicate and require respect and careful handling.
Some are avail with 2 mm diameter cable as a option instead of the 1 mm standard issue. On at least Countryman, they can be unplugged from the mic element 'ear wire assembly' for easy replacement.
Perhaps the purchase of 2 or 4 of these would encourage further donations or funding, after the realization by people on how magnificent the vocals are reproduced along with the increase in intelligibility and serious decline in fighting gain before feedback type problems. After using these - all of my clients are very enthusiastic about the performance of these style mics.
If you are in need of wireless systems, above and beyond the mics themselves - I will strongly encourage wise purchase of quality UHF, Diversity, Frequency agile, name brand systems.
There are brands to avoid but not sure I am allowed to say that. Suffice to say, perhaps a phone call to a legitimate local sound contractor business would shed additional light on my comments.
Best wishes for your theatre. I have repaired, designed, consulted and installed sound, lighting and multimedia, for many many years along with performing professionally in the music business, besides teaching sound reinforcement.
Try your local sound contractor for assistance.
